MOVE
The Multi-trade Organizing Volunteer Education (MOVE) program is national in scope among all building trades unions and designed to educate union members on the need to organize unrepresented workers -- and how to do it.
Workers can gain better wages and benefits at the bargaining table if the playing field in their area is level. A large number of nonunion employers can drive wages down, making it hard for union employers to compete. The bar is raised for everybody with the power of a union behind them, bringing fair pay, a retirement plan, health plan, training, credit unions and many other benefits.
All Roofers and Waterproofers can become activists on organizing through MOVE training. The basic MOVE class lasts one day and introduces the need to organize through flip charts, videos, exercises, handouts and discussion groups. The class shows the parallels between union and nonunion workers; it can lead to energized Roofers and Waterproofers to be the best representatives in organizing efforts on the job.
